Lewis H. Shaffer Red Cross Aquatic Scholarship Available
|
|
The Indiana County Chapter of the American Red Cross will award Aquatic Scholarships to qualified county residents. The scholarships will cover tuition, books and materials, and entitles the recipient to attend Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Instructor Training or Water Safety Training in Indiana County.
Applicants must:
• meet minimum age requirements
• be a full-time resident of
Indiana
County
• Intend to use the required training to benefit residents of
Indiana
County
• Enroll in a Red Cross course as specified above
• Offer proof that course prerequisites have been met
The scholarship is for non-college credit courses only. If the recipient of the scholarship wishes to obtain college credit for taking a course, it will be at his or her own expense.
Persons interested in applying for the scholarship can pick up applications and course fact sheets at the Indiana County Chapter. The Red Cross will accept applications on a continual basis for courses held throughout the year.

Adult CPR
Learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults.
Length of course: 3.75 hours
|
|
Adult CPR with AED
AED means automatic external defibrillator. It is a machine that analyzes the heart’s rhythm and if necessary tells you to deliver a shock to a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. This course trains the participant in Adult CPR and the use of an AED using a training model.
|

CPR Review
This course is available to participants who hold a current, valid adult, infant, or child CPR certification or whose certification has expired within one year.
For example: Your certification is valid until July 31, 2011. You have untl July 31, 2012 to schedule a review course.

First Aid: Infant / Child CPR
Designed for childcare providers, teachers, parents and others who care for children, this course teaches how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies and how to use the
EMS
system effectively. Participants take home a refresher skills card as well as information about preventing injuries. This course applies to infants and children up to 8 years. Infant CPR is also available separately as a 3 1/2 hour course that applies to infants up to 12 months; Child CPR (4 hours) is available separately and applies to children age 1 to 8 years.
Length of course: 5.5 hours

Layresponder First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Course
This course is designed to train instructor candidates to teach basic level American Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED courses to layresponders.
Minimum age is 16.
Length: Approximately 20 hours. This includes Fundamentals of Instructor Training course and a precourse session.
Cost: $150

Pet First Aid
This course trains a pet owner how to recognize and care for breathing, and first aid emergencies for their pets.

|
GROUP CLASSES
|
HIV/AIDS Education – This course is designed to provide the general public with the basic knowledge of HIV infection and AIDS.
Length of course: 1 hours
Cost: Free of Charge

Blood Borne Pathogens: Preventing Disease Transmission – This course trains employees in safe workplace practices, and to report and follow up on employee exposures to infectious materials.
Length of course: 2 hours
Cost: $5.00 Per Person

GENERAL COURSES

Babysitters Training
This course provides individuals, ages 11 to 15 with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; basic care; safety and safe play; and first aid.

First Aid & Preparedness for Workplaces
Streamlined to fit into busy work schedules, this interactive presentation is ideal for employees who want to learn lifesaving skills, but do not need to receive certification to meet OSHA regulations. A 90-minute session is packed with information to help employees stay prepared with valuable lifesaving skills.
Cost $25.00 per person
